- The literacy Essential Learnings will be a significant influence for advancing student learning.
- The literacy Essential Learnings will drive the instructional focus throughout the curricula of GCS.
- The literacy Essential Learnings will be used in all classrooms throughout the district.
- The GCS balanced literacy framework will use the following core elements to bring the Essential Learnings to all students: Readers’ Workshop, Writers’ Workshop, and Language/Word Study.
- Individual strengths and needs will be addressed through small group and conferring opportunities in each classroom.
- The literacy Essential Learnings will be supported by all available resources.
- Good Habits, Great Readers, Words Their Way, and Quickreads will be used to support the Essential Learnings of our school district.
- GCS grade-level scope and sequence documents will clearly articulate to teachers, students, and parents how GCS resources support the Essential Learnings.
- Fidelity to the Essential Learnings and the GCS grade-level scope and sequence is paramount to ensure student success.
- The building principal will be a key communicator of the literacy Essential Learnings and GCS grade-level scope and sequence within the building.
- Classroom walk-throughs will be used to monitor fidelity to the Essential Learnings and GCS scope and sequence.
- The Executive Director of Elementary Education will ensure fidelity through dialogue and monitoring with each building principal.
- All students will participate in common assessments in literacy, which will be used as “assessments for learning”. PLCs will use this information to inform instruction.
